Workshop Work
Immersing in mediums and processes
Material & Experiments
Wood work, Welding, Hands-on exploration, Workshop processes, Material and Manufacturing.
Individual Experiments, Academic, 2021
Duration: 1 month
Guide: Mr. Mohammed Naim Shaikh
Special Thanks: Workshop Staff at NID
Materials Explored: AutoCAD, Metal (MS, Brass, Aluminum), Wood (Pine and Teak), Polystyrene, MDF
Brief: Learning hands-on, how to create using various materials and processes, in order to deepen one's understanding of manufacturing and prototyping.
About the project:
These are some of the outcomes of a month long workshop skills module where we got accustomed to prototyping skills and material properties by partaking in small projects across various materials. All of these are results of experiments, curiosity and patience, and show my skill and comfort in using various materials.

Working with wood
First time carving wooden pieces, I used teak wood to create a jar and a wine glass over a lathe machine. I also explored using pine wood to carve out a spoon and explore a dovetail joinery.

Making a Canon in Metal
MDF and laser cutting

Polystyrene
Key take away:
I got to learn so many small details like draft angles, clearances, curing etc. first hand while exploring various material possibilities through these short projects. These learnings later helped me make my own prototypes.
